Growing up during a tough time, in a rough neighborhood, coach Rick picked up the art of boxing as a form of self defense, eventually adding Brazilian jiu jitsu with the intent of coaching and competing as an amateur boxer and MMA fighter. Before becoming a coach, Rick competed in various grappling tournaments and was a competitive kickboxer for a few years. Since becoming a coach at Portland City Boxing, coach Rick has competed as a Master boxer in PCB's Fight Night 1, as an MMA fighter for the Full Contact Fight Federation and cornered multiple fighters for their fights in boxing and mixed martial arts. Coach Rick is an active combat sports competitor and USA Boxing certified coach focused on teaching the technical aspects of boxing, available for personal training.
    About: As a lifelong martial artist, my journey began at the age of 8 when I immersed myself in the discipline of Taekwondo. Since then, I've dedicated my life to mastering various forms of combat sports and fitness training. With extensive experience spanning over decades, I bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to my role as a coach at Portland City Boxing. Professional Background: My martial arts journey has been diverse and dynamic. From coaching classes as a teenager to representing Team USA in international competitions, I've honed my skills across different disciplines. My commitment to excellence led me to join the Navy, where I was entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing physical training for my entire unit. Whether it was preparing individuals for PT tests or instilling discipline and resilience, I embraced the challenge with determination. From there I worked my way up and honed in my skills working at various gyms around town until I opened my own gym Strength Camp Portland, At Strength Camp Portland, we didn't just focus on physical strength; we cultivated a community centered around holistic health and personal growth. Martial Arts Mastery: With over 15 years of experience in Muay Thai and a lifelong devotion to martial arts, I bring a unique perspective to the world of boxing. Despite initial reservations from family, including my grandfather, a professional boxer himself, I've embraced the sport with fervor. My training extends beyond the ring, encompassing disciplines such as Jiu-Jitsu, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong, enriching my understanding of movement, balance, and mindfulness. Professional Certifications: In my pursuit of holistic wellness and performance optimization, I am a certified Chek practitioner and holistic lifestyle coach, holding a degree in holistic health. The Chek system, renowned for its comprehensive approach to corrective programming, aligns seamlessly with my philosophy of holistic well-being.
